Travel in a comfortable 4×4 safari vehicle with an experienced local guide and enjoy daily game drives through some of Tanzania’s most famous wildlife destinations. The safari is designed as a budget camping experience, making it a practical choice for travelers who want to spend more time exploring Tanzania’s wilderness while keeping accommodation costs manageable. Similar current budget itineraries use small-group camping and 4×4 safari vehicles.
Many travelers often ask about the best time to visit Tanzania. The truth is that there is no single perfect answer, as it largely depends on what you want to experience, your preferred destinations, your budget, and your personal interests. For a detailed breakdown, you can explore a comprehensive guide on the best time to visit Tanzania here.
Dry Season (June to October & December to February):
This is widely considered the best period for safaris and beach holidays. The weather is generally warm and pleasant, and wildlife viewing is at its peak as animals gather around water sources. However, this is also the high season, meaning higher accommodation prices and more visitors in popular parks and attractions.
Mid Season (March & November):
These months offer a good balance between cost and experience. You’ll find more moderate hotel rates and fewer tourists compared to peak season. Weather conditions can be mixed, with occasional rains, and some activities or routes may be slightly affected. Nevertheless, wildlife sightings remain excellent, and the overall safari experience is more relaxed.
Wet Season (April & May):
This is the best time for budget travelers, as it is the low season with the lowest accommodation rates and fewer crowds in the parks. The landscapes are at their greenest and most beautiful due to heavy rains. However, some travel plans may be impacted by weather conditions, and certain areas can be harder to access.

Your 5-day Tanzania budget safari begins with pickup from Arusha in the morning. Drive to Tarangire National Park, famous for its large elephant herds, giant baobab trees and diverse wildlife.
Enjoy a game drive through the park while looking for elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffaloes, lions and a variety of bird species.
After a picnic lunch, continue your afternoon game drive before leaving Tarangire and driving to the Mto wa Mbu area for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, depart for Serengeti National Park, traveling through the scenic Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
As you approach the Serengeti, the landscape opens into vast grasslands. Begin your wildlife viewing as you enter the park and continue with a game drive toward your campsite.
The Serengeti is famous for its abundant wildlife and seasonal wildebeest and zebra movements. You may encounter lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffaloes and other wildlife during the journey.
Spend a full day exploring the Serengeti with morning and afternoon game drives.
Start early to take advantage of the cooler morning hours and search for wildlife across the plains. Your safari guide will choose suitable areas based on wildlife movements and current conditions.
After lunch, continue exploring the Serengeti. Keep your camera ready for possible sightings of lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and other animals.
Return to camp in the evening for dinner and relaxation.
After breakfast, leave the Serengeti and travel toward the Ngorongoro Crater.
Descend into the crater for a game drive across its remarkable floor. The crater supports a wide variety of wildlife, giving you opportunities to see lions, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos and, with luck, black rhinos.
Enjoy a picnic lunch during the day’s safari before ascending the crater.
Continue to Mto wa Mbu for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara National Park for your final game drive.
The park offers a mixture of woodland, grassland and lakeshore habitats and is known for its varied birdlife and wildlife. During your game drive, look for elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, monkeys and other animals.
After lunch, leave the park and drive back to Arusha, where your safari ends.
