Start your Kilimanjaro adventure at the Machame Gate, located at 1,800m on the southern slope. After registration and a briefing, you’ll trek through a lush rainforest filled with ancient trees, moss, and wildlife like colobus monkeys. Arrive at Machame Camp in the late afternoon, where you’ll rest and enjoy your first night under the stars.

Today’s trail is steeper as you ascend out of the forest and into the moorland zone. Enjoy expansive views as you hike along ridgelines and volcanic rock formations. You’ll reach Shira Plateau, one of Kilimanjaro’s oldest volcanic zones. Shira Camp offers clear night skies and views of Mount Meru in the distance.

This is a vital acclimatization day. You’ll ascend to Lava Tower (4,600m), a dramatic volcanic structure, then descend to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” technique helps your body adjust to the altitude and improves summit success rates. Barranco is set in a stunning valley beneath the Great Barranco Wall.

Begin the day by climbing the Barranco Wall, a thrilling but safe scramble that rewards you with panoramic views. After reaching the top, the trail undulates through alpine terrain with short ascents and descents to Karanga Camp, your lunch and overnight spot.

A steady uphill climb leads to Barafu Camp, your base before summit night. Arrive early for rest, hydration, and a final briefing. The terrain is rocky and exposed, with temperatures dropping fast. You’ll go to bed early in preparation for the midnight summit push.

Arctic to rainforest
Summit day begins at midnight. Using headlamps, you’ll ascend to Stella Point (5,756m) and finally reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Watch a breathtaking sunrise over the glaciers. After photos and celebration, begin your long descent via Barafu Camp to Mweka Camp.

Rainforest
Your final descent takes you back into the rainforest, where the trail can be muddy and slippery. Once at Mweka Gate, you’ll receive your Kilimanjaro climbing certificate. Your driver will transfer you back to Moshi or Arusha for a well-deserved rest.
