Home » 3 Days Safari Serengeti & Ngorongoro Crater
Three-day safari in the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti. A guide/driver and a chef accompany a maximum of 6-7 guests on this group excursion, which is in a specialised safari jeep with a pop-up roof.
In a short amount of time and on a budget, this tour brings you to the most well-known wildlife areas in the world, which are home to wild cats. If it’s the right season, you can discover the splendour of the Ngorongoro crater and get a chance to observe thousands of wildebeest during their migration, which is why the renowned Lion King movie was set in Serengeti National Park.
Many travelers often ask about the best time to visit Tanzania. The truth is that there is no single perfect answer, as it largely depends on what you want to experience, your preferred destinations, your budget, and your personal interests. For a detailed breakdown, you can explore a comprehensive guide on the best time to visit Tanzania here.
Dry Season (June to October & December to February):
This is widely considered the best period for safaris and beach holidays. The weather is generally warm and pleasant, and wildlife viewing is at its peak as animals gather around water sources. However, this is also the high season, meaning higher accommodation prices and more visitors in popular parks and attractions.
Mid Season (March & November):
These months offer a good balance between cost and experience. You’ll find more moderate hotel rates and fewer tourists compared to peak season. Weather conditions can be mixed, with occasional rains, and some activities or routes may be slightly affected. Nevertheless, wildlife sightings remain excellent, and the overall safari experience is more relaxed.
Wet Season (April & May):
This is the best time for budget travelers, as it is the low season with the lowest accommodation rates and fewer crowds in the parks. The landscapes are at their greenest and most beautiful due to heavy rains. However, some travel plans may be impacted by weather conditions, and certain areas can be harder to access.

After breakfast, depart from Arusha for the Serengeti, a journey of about 8 hours including several stops as you pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Stop: Ngorongoro Crater Viewpoint
Take a short break at the gate and viewpoint to admire the stunning panoramic views of the crater.
Duration: approx. 20 minutes
Optional Stop: Maasai Village
You may choose to visit a traditional Maasai village to learn about the culture of this iconic tribe. Historically, the Maasai were known for their unique customs such as lion hunting and drinking fresh animal blood. While many of these practices are no longer followed (except for the blood-drinking tradition), a visit offers cultural insight and interaction.
Duration: 20–45 minutes (not included in the package; optional activity).
Serengeti National Park
Arrive in the Serengeti by late afternoon and enjoy a game drive in the Seronera region, the heart of the park. Witness the sunset over the plains and, with some luck, spot predators hunting or feeding. After the drive, head to the Seronera campsite for the night. From the campsite, it’s common to hear or even spot wildlife such as hyenas, but the area is well-guarded by rangers to ensure safety.
After an early breakfast, you will set out on a morning game drive in the Serengeti, enjoying plenty of wildlife sightings until midday. Later, return to camp for lunch and to pack up before continuing with a game drive as you exit the park. From there, you will drive for about 2 hours to the Lodge, located near the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater.
The Ngorongoro Crater is considered the best wildlife park in Tanzania due to its stunning crater landscape and the ease of spotting wildlife. After an early breakfast, you will head to the Ngorongoro viewpoint to admire the breathtaking scenery. The view is surreal and will surely captivate you for a moment.
From there, you will descend into the crater in search of the black rhinos, which are the most difficult animals to spot. Most other wildlife is easier to see here since the park lies on the crater floor. The Ngorongoro Crater is the main highlight in Tanzania, known for its striking scenery and rich wildlife population. The crater is self-sustaining, providing enough resources for the animals, so most of them remain inside year-round.
